Poker with Friends | Part 1

What do you do on a Sunday night when not much is going on? You play poker! Poker with Friends!

That was a lame opening, wasn’t it? I mean, it’s not lame for cliché writers and shit like that, but I think you might have come to expect more from me. Therefore, I apologize. Let’s try again…

I played a six-hour session in a private 2/4 No Limit game on PokerBros, which mostly consistent of friends in the poker community and Facebook friends. They knew I’d be writing about the session here, which drove strong traffic. For the first few hours, there were 6-7 people on the waiting list. They eventually opened another table, which ran for a couple of hours. When that game broke, those players moved back into our game.

Wait a second! That’s informative, but that’s still not an exciting opener. You get three strikes, right? Give me one more chance. Here we go…

My friends were trying to take my fucking money! This is how it played out.

Better? I like it, so I’m rolling with it.

BUY-IN: $218

This is the first time in my life I have ever bought-in to a poker game for $218. The only reason I did this is because it’s what I had in my account. My primary objective on this night wasn’t to win at the poker table. That would be a nice bonus, but my primary objective was to get people to the tables. I think that went well. I also enjoy this challenge in live settings and usually deliver.

That’s for those of you who run poker tours and poker rooms. I will deliver. I don’t have any freaking clue why, but when I post I’m playing somewhere, a lot of people show up. I really don’t know the reason. I just know it’s kind of cool.

When I first sat down, the other players at the table included PokerByotch, RickyTidwell, MsPokerMafia, SaintsFanGirl, and Joachim. These are all friends of mine. More friends showed up, but I’m not going to write ‘This is my friend’ every time. You can just say to yourself something like: Hmm … Iceberg$limm, that sounds like he would be a friend of Tyler’s. Or: FunkyByt3, I don’t think Tyler knows that person because they’re both funky and too much funk at one table can lead to drama. If they knew each other, one of them would have changed their name.

Enough of that. Let’s get to some poker. As promised, I attempted to record every hand. I think I got almost all of them. Some of the notes might seem random. The reason for that is because they’re notes. Thanks for understanding!

Timer-fold because I was writing these notes. Didn’t intend to call anyway. My bad for wasting time, but I was riding a bike and taking notes with a pen and paper. All while playing poker and listening to Jimi Hendrix (followed by Pink Floyd later in the night). Interesting because sometimes I go with Drake and Jay-Z. Either way, I will be judged. Doesn’t matter to me. Oh … I was also drinking a Bing (Apple Crisp).

Almost time-folded by accident because I was checking my messages.

Called right on time. Didn’t have time to think about raising.

Five-way pot.

Flop: 29A

I bet out vs. four opponents. I know this is risky, and many people will disagree with it, but I must mix-in this play for the long haul so opponents never know where I’m coming from. It’s not about one specific hand. It’s about your image and how to use it to your advantage. It also means opponents might put you on a set when you bet out with top pair. This is good. All that said, everyone folded, which sucked. But it’s way better than a flop of AKQ.

____________

A♠ 4♠ in BB.

SaintsFanGirl raises to $10 from UTG.

Flop: A74

I have played with Chris many times. I bet ¾ of the pot to take this sucker down without any drama. I know she will raise if she’s ahead, which will give me the answer, but it’s not likely she’s ahead.

I check.

MsPokerMafia bets half the pot.

Too many opponents for that trick to work. Not sure why I tried. Misstep. Only cost me $4 though. If all the mistakes in my life cost me $4, I’d be living in the lap of luxury, but luxury is overrated. I’d rather strive.
